Yet again waiting for Bio practical to start. It's all about Nematodes!!! Poor things are going to be flattened... We put them onto an organic (NOT real) sponge and gave them yeast to feed off 4 weeks ago. Monty (nickname I gave the Bio prof in charge of these practicals. Not to his face of course!) fed and hydrated them to make sure they stayed alive. Anyhow we're supposed to observe them and then squash the females to see the embryos divide. From 1 to 4 cells in half an hour!!! Hope it won't last too long.
Two weeks ago we dissected the fish. Accidentally punctured it's gut, but (uh oh, dunno what gender the fish was) didn't mind too much. Taking the gut out was pains-givingly long. ''You can cut all the white stuff EXCEPT that. Oh, yeah don't cut this either. It looks like fat, however it's something different. Be careful here!'' So, what the schmuck can we cut then??? Gave up trying to find the esophagus in the end...
The mouse was still warm. They had gassed it 5 seconds before... We had to precisely cut the skin without breaking the membrane underneath it. Once that was done we had to cut open the membrane. Er..? Why couldn't we have done this at the same time??? We wasted half an hour carefully avoiding it and THEN we had to cut it! Then we had to check out the internal organs, cut through the Sternum and diaphragm to see the lungs. I had a white male, so you were supposed to observe the testicles as well. Then you had to draw a mouse of an opposite gender. Had to draw the mouse of the guy next to me (it wasn't the ''ex-lab partner''; he was not there). Did you know that female mice have TWO uterus? What do you mean ''you don't care''?!? Is that the way a real scientist/future doctor/dentist talks? I should think not!

The Lion King Broadway production is on in Germ! In Hamburg to be exact. It sounded as though it was in German, but since it's the same cast, don't really see how that would work...

Regardless, some I-D-I-O-T-I-C animal protectors said that Knut should be put down, because it's unnatural for him to grow up without a mother. ''UNNATURAL''??? What's natural about being in a zoo?
